SPORTS BRIEFS: 10,000 Bucket Club contest; venues reopen

FORKS — Forks boys and girls basketball players in grades 6-12 can enter the Forks Spartans 10,000 Bucket Club contest running now through July 31.

Players who achieve the goal of making a total of 10,000 buckets will receive a Spartan 10,000 Bucket Club shirt and be recognized at a Spartans home basketball contest.

Forks boys basketball coach Rick Gooding put together the challenge with the goal for players to get better at basketball while recognizing Spartans who are willing to work hard to improve their skills while also getting players to shoot with a purpose more often.

Players are asked to count and record shots every time a basket is made on a piece of paper — players have to make the shot to count as one of the 10,000 buckets.

Shooting sessions can be done alone or in a group, at your home hoop or a community basket. The only requirement is every hoop must be 10 feet in regulation.

Sixth-graders are asked to shoot layins 25 percent of the time, free throws 25 percent, and 50 percent from outside the key.

Seventh- and eighth-graders, along with high school players, should shoot 25 percent layins, 25 percent free throws, 25 percent outside the key and 25 percent on 3-point tries.
