SPORTS BRIEF: Sequim fifth-grade boys second at state basketball championships

SPOKANE — The Sequim fifth-grade select basketball team came in second in its division this weekend at the Washington Middle School Basketball Championships.

Sequim’s record this year, including the tournament held March 16-18, was 21-3.

Sequim beat Cashmere 45-19, Liberty 51-48 and Kelso HHC 35-30 to get in the championship game, where they lost to Methow Valley 48-41.

Lincoln Liggins led Sequim in scoring in all the games, with 18 against Cashmere, 29 against Liberty, (including a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer), 27 points against Kelso, and 27 against Methow Valley.

The Sequim boys thanked those who contributed to their We Do Fudge fundraiser, Jamie Parrish Plumbing and the Co-op Farm and Garden for their donations, and First Federal bank for its Sequim Youth Basketball Hall of Fame level sponsorship.
