PORT ANGELES — Anthony Brandon scored two early goals to spark Port Angeles to a 3-0 blanking of archrival Sequim in Olympic League boys soccer action at Civic Field on Tuesday night.
Brandon scored both of his goals in the first 17 minutes on through-balls for a 2-0 halftime lead, and then Tamrat Haskins helped finish the Wolves off with a goal early in the second half.
“Brandon is a tough kid to contain,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
“He is very quick.”
Brasher said he was impressed by how well the Roughriders played.
“[Coach] Chris Saari has his kids playing well,” he said.
The three points for winning will boost the Riders in the standings as they improve to 1-2-1 (four points) in playoff contention and in the league trophy race, 1-1-1 against fellow 2A league teams and 5-3-4 overall.
The Wolves, meanwhile, are 1-2-0 in league (three points) and 3-5-2 overall.
Brandon scored in the fifth minute on a through pass from Haskins, and again in the 17th minute on an assist from Hayden McCartney.
Haskins put the Riders ahead 3-0 one minute into the second half on a long driven shot on an assist by Max Bukovnik.
The Wolves put some pressure on the Riders throughout the match but were unable to capitalize on some good chances to score.
The Wolves outshot the Riders 10-8 but just couldn’t get any of their shots into the net.
Port Angeles goalkeeper Jack Doryland recorded his fourth shutout of the season, making a few key stops along the way.
Rider defender Nick Ioffrida had two goal-line saves to help preserve the clean sheet for Port Angeles.
“Max Bukovnik had an outstanding game for us in defense, winning balls, distributing well and making runs forward,” Saari said.
The Port Angeles coach named Brandon the offensive player of the match, Bukovnik and Ioffrida co-defensive players of the game and Haskins transition player of the match.
Sequim beat Port Angeles in the JV match 5-0.
The Riders next won’t play against until Tuesday when they host Klahowya at Civic Field.
The Wolves next will host Klahowya today.

ELMA — The Eagles scored three goals in the first half and cruised to the SWL-Evergreen Division victory Tuesday night.
The Spartans, having trouble scoring all year, fell to 1-10 in league and 1-11 overall.
They next host Tenino today.

TACOMA — The Tarriers, one of the better teams in the Nisqually League, are finding out that the Cowboys are in a league of their own.
Rarely challenged this season, the Cowboys have blown out the Tarriers twice, beating them 13-0 last week.
Chimacum remains perfect the year after winning the Class 1A state championship, improving to 6-0 in the Nisqually League and 9-0 overall.
The Cowboys led the Tarriers 6-1 through six innings but scored five runs in the top of the seventh to win going away.
Austin McConnell started on the mound and went three innings, striking out three and picking up the win.
Landon Cray had a hot day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a home run, double, an RBI and he scored two runs.
Quinn Eldridge went 3 for 4 with three RBIs while Egan Cornachione went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

FORKS — The Bulldogs had one big inning in each game to blow the contests wide open.
It was the second inning in the first game that the Bulldogs ran away by scoring seven unearned runs.
The fireworks came in the fifth inning of game two as Montesano scored five runs.
Mark Jacobson went 1 for 2 with a double in the first game while Tre Harris had the Spartans’ only hit in the second game.
Boys Golf
Port Angeles 420, North Mason 444
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders remained undefeated and on top of the Olympic League standings at 5-0 Tuesday.
The perfect Riders went against undefeated Sequim (4-0) in a showdown of the best two teams in league Wednesday at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
Results weren’t available at press time.
Jordan Negus and Joe Barnes tied for medalist honors with a score of 75 each in the 18-hole competition at Peninsula Golf Club.
They both shot 39 on the front nine and 36 on the back nine.
Negus shot one birdie and 11 pars while Barnes had three birdies and eight pars.
Barnes earned his second straight medalist honor in only his fifth varsity golf match.
Garrett Payton was next with an 84, shooting 41 in the front and 43 in the back, followed by Alex Atwell with 89 and Austin Underwood with 97.
Girls Golf
Port Angeles beats North Mason
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders earned a team score of 294 to down the Bulldogs in Olympic League action in their final home meet at Peninsula Golf Club on Tuesday.
Dana Fox was medalist with a 9-over 44 in the nine-hold competition.
Sydney Rauch scored a 55, followed by Kelly Winn with 65, Chloe Brown with 63, Taylor Rutz with 67 and freshman Clare Wiswell played her first varsity match with a 68.
