SPORTS: Blue Heron Middle School football remains undefeated

PORT TOWNSEND — The Blue Heron Middle School football team remained undefeated with a 57-0 victory over cross-town rival Chimacum on Wednesday.

The Herons, coming off of a victory over Stevens Middle School of Port Angeles the week before, took their record to 3-0 on the season.

Blue Heron, led by quarterback Detrius Kelsall, took the early lead when Kelsall hit Domenick Zack with a 30-yard pass for the score.

On the next possession for the Herons, Isaiah Mason ran 45 yards for pay-dirt and Berkley Hill added the extra point.

After stopping Chimacum on defense, Zack added an 80-yard touchdown with a pass from Kelsall.

Mason recovered the onside kick and Kelsall added to his impressive season with a 30 pass to Brennan LaBrie.

Kelsall finished with 315 yards passing and five touchdowns.

Zack opened the second half with a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and “Big Mac” Cody Mclain added the extra point.

Carson Marx added two rushing touchdowns, finishing with 125 yards rushing and Kaiden Parcher caught a 15-yard pass from Kelsall for a score.

Mason added a 40-yard touchdown reception to to end his day with 90 yards receiving and 75 rushing.

The Herons had a total of 620 yards of offense and allowed only three first downs and 45 yards of total offense for Chimacum.

The Herons defense has not allowed a point to be scored on it this season, and is led by linemen Parcher, Jonathan Smith and Jacob Massie, linebackers Jackson Foster, Zack and Mason, and cornerbacks Hill, Marx and Kyle Blankenship.

The Herons have allowed only 120 yards of offense against them in three games.

Blue Heron next travels to Sequim next Wednesday with a 4 p.m. kickoff.

The Herons have received an invitation to play in the 2012 Youth Football National Championships in Houston, Texas in December.
