Sports: Archrivals in showdown game tonight

CHIMACUM — This is about as good as it gets. The Chimacum High School girls basketball team will host archrival Port Townsend in a do-or-die West Central District playoff game tonight.

The winner goes on with a shot at a state playoff berth while the loser stays home.

The game starts at 8 p.m. and is part of a playoff doubleheader: The Chimacum boys play Orting in another loser-out game beginning at 6 p.m.

Two of the best girls basketball players in Jefferson County history will try to prolong their prep careers with a win — Port Townsend’s Erica Amico and Chimacum’s Caitlin Eldridge, the coach’s daughter.

“For this area, this is about as good a game as you can get,” Port Townsend girls basketball coach Randy Maag said.

“I expect the Chimacum gym will have its biggest crowd ever.

“I know we will have a large turnout for our team. It will be standing-room only.”
