CHEHALIS — Forks couldn’t break down state powerhouse Adna in a Class 2B Southwest District 4 Softball Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday, falling 9-1 to the 10-time state champion Pirates at Fort Borst Park.
The Spartans mustered only four hits against Adna starter Ava Simms, a Kadie Wood double, two singles by Bailey Johnson and a solo home run by Chloe Gaydeski.
Simms totaled 13 strikeouts in the circle.
Lower Columbia College signee Brooklyn Losee had two home runs and went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs and four runs scored. Simms went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs and Kendall Humphrey went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs to pace the Pirates.
Forks (14-6) will take on Toledo back at Fort Borst Park at 10 a.m. Saturday.
A win will send the Spartans back to the state tournament, while a loss won’t end Forks’ season.
If the Spartans lose to Toledo, they’ll play the loser between Pe Ell/Willapa Valley and Raymond/South Bend at 2 p.m. The loser of that game will be eliminated, but the winner of that contest will face Friday Harbor in a district crossover winner-to-state, loser-out game at 6 p.m.
