PORT ANGELES — A playoff soccer-filled Saturday awaits fans at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.
Three playoff games are on the bill. First, the Peninsula Pirates men’s and women’s teams host Northwest Athletic Conference Quarterfinals — then a break before a district tournament clash between rivals Port Angeles and Sequim are on tap on the artificial turf.
Admission will be charged separately for the college and prep contests.
The games begin when the top-ranked Peninsula women (19-0-0) face the West Region runner-up, No. 6 Bellevue (14- 3-1) at noon.
The Bulldogs edged East No. 3 Spokane 2-1 Wednesday in a first-round game.
At 2 p.m., the second-ranked Pirate men (15-1-2) take on East No. 3 Wenatchee Valley (8-4-4). Wenatchee Valley upset No. 7 Highline 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday.
Admission for the college games is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors ages 55 and older, teens ages 13-17, veterans and PC alumni. The games are free for current students and staff.
At 5:30 p.m., Port Angeles (14-1-2) and Sequim (11-5-1) will play in a seeding game to decide the West Central District III’s third and fourth seeds to the Class 2A state tournament.
Admission for this district-administered contest is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and students with an ASB card, $4 for students 12 and younger and free for preschoolers accompanied by a parent.
Saturday’s game will serve as the rubber match in the season series between the two rivals.
Port Angeles beat Sequim 4-1 at Civic Field on Sept. 12 and the Wolves beat the Riders 2-1 in Sequim on Oct. 8.
Besides hometown pride, there is added motivation for each team.
The winner gets to host a first-round state contest, likely back at Peninsula College, early next week.
