PORT ANGELES — Air rifle sharpshooters with the Port Angeles High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps dialed in their shots and qualified for the Civilian Marksman Program’s National competition in July at Camp Perry, Ohio.

The Port Angeles team finished first overall and three cadets placed in the individual competition at the U.S. JROTC NW Regional Championship held in Oregon, City, Ore. in March.

Team members are Cadets Sadie Miller, Joseph Maggard, Michael Aranda, Tallulah Meneely and Brenna Murphy.

Murphy won her category at the NW Regional event and also placed first in all JROTC competitions during the school year.

Meneely earned a second-place finish while Aranda, team captain for the cadets, placed fourth.

Late in April Port Angeles flew to Sandy, Utah to participate in the Civilian Marksman Program’s Regional Competition, placing seventh overall and 17th nationally.

Senior chief Rob Smith heads up the Port Angeles NJROTC team with Brent Maggard, a national level sharpshooting coach, coaching the squad with help from Trish and Kayden Murphy, who run practices each week and keep the team on track.

The squad boasts a team-GPA of 3.8 as well.

Port Angeles NJROTC is raising funds for the trip to compete in Ohio.
