SEQUIM — The inaugural Sequim Elks Golf Tournament will be held at the Sunland Golf Club on Saturday, Aug. 28.
All of the sponsor money collected for the tournament will go toward the Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children.
The format is a rodeo scramble with all kinds of wrinkles thrown into play, such as “three blind mice” (three holes, no flags on green), a backward hole (tee with a wedge and hit a driver off the grass) and an entire bunker being the hole. There will be competitions for longest putts and closest to the pin.
Check in is 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and shotgun start is 9 a.m. Entry fee is $100 per player or $70 for Sunland members.
People can register via mail or can be dropped off at the Sequim Elks Lodge 2642, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim WA 98382. Make checks payable to Sequim Elks Lodge 2642.

Women’s golf
DISCOVERY BAY — The Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club met Thursday for a beautiful day of golf, but decided that the day was too hot to play all 18 holes.
Therefore, members chose a 9-hole competition of individual stroke play (low net) instead. Barb Aldrich and Lynn Pierle tied for first with a net score of 34.5. Katherine Buchanan came in third with a 35. Diane Solie was fourth at 35.5 and Donna Brown took fifth with a 36.5.
The Port Townsend Women’s 9-hole Golf Club beat the heat wave on Aug. 10 and played “Super Seven/Dice Roll”. When the dice were rolled after the round, holes No. 5 and No. 6 were tossed out. Therefore only the remaining seven holes were used to determine the low net winner, who was Robin LeLievre with a net score of 20. Linda Deal and Linda Sather tied for second place with scores of 22 each. Barb Matter was fourth with a score of 23 and Lynn Bidlake came in fifth with a score of 24.
ODT segment to close
BLYN — The Clallam County Public Works road division plans to begin a repair next week of a 200-foot-wide segment of the Olympic Discovery Trail located at about the halfway point between Sequim Bay State Park and Blyn.
This trail segment has lost a “significant” amount of usable trail width, according to a county press release.
The work is scheduled to begin Monday, weather permitting. About a one-half-mile-long segment of the trail between the east end of Dawley Road and the Dean Creek Trail Bridge near West Old Blyn Highway will be closed to all trail traffic.
The work is expected to take two weeks, but could take longer, according to the county. The trail work could be subject to change depending on weather, staffing and other factors.
