QUILCENE — Quilcene’s Budnek siblings dominated the Sea-Tac 1B League all-league selections for football Monday.
Running back Bishop Budnek, a junior, was named the league’s offensive Most Valuable Player. Budnek has rushed for nearly 2,900 yards in his last 14 games and has scored 327 points for the Rangers.
Brother Zach Budnek, a senior, was named the league’s defensive Most Valuable Player. Zach Budnek has been a five-year starter for Quilcene. He was also the league MVP his junior year and was a first-team 1B all-state selection on the offensive and defensive lines.
Sophomore Deakon Budnek also made the Sea-Tac 1B first team as an offensive lineman.
Also making the Sea-Tac 1B first-team were Quilcene’s Cash Thacker, linebacker; Ashton Johnson, defensive line; Austin Hough, defensive back; and Kevin Alejo, defensive back.
Making the Sea-Tac 1B second-team were Nathan Kieffer, quarterback, and James Miller, offensive line.
The Rangers went 5-0 this season, winning both the Sea-Tac 1B North Division and the Sea-Tac 1B league championship. The Rangers didn’t get the opportunity to play any more postseason other than the Sea-Tac 1B championship game due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Forks All-League volleyball
FORKS — in their first year of the 2B Pacific League, the Spartans volleyball team got seven players on the league’s athletic and academic teams.
The Spartans’ Kyra Neel and Kadie Wood were named to the 2B Pacific League all-league volleyball team Monday.
Making the second team were Forks’ Kesia Rowley, and making the honorable mention team were Kray Horton and Kaidence Rigby.
Named to the Pacific League’s all-academic team were Neel, Colbie Rancourt and Maren McCracken. It takes a grade-point average of 3.7 to make the all-academic team.
Sidney Swogger of Raymond was named the Pacific League’s Most Valuable Player, while Elsie Mitchell of Chief Leschi was named the Coach of the Year, and Ilwaco won the league’s sportsmanship award.
