PUYALLUP — The East Jefferson girls basketball team had what coach Lorraine Rimson said was the “biggest win in the history of the program” with a tough, defensive 41-36 victory over Nisqually League foe Cascade Christian on Saturday.
“This was not a game we were supposed to win. We have not beaten Cascade Christian since East Jefferson basketball has existed,” Rimson said. “One of our goals this year was to win a game that we were not supposed to win.
“They were not intimidated by the moment. It was really special to watch,” she said.
With the victory, East Jefferson improved to 6-2 in the Nisqually League (6-6 overall), good for third place behind Annie Wright and Bellevue Christian, which is No. 5 in the entire state in Ratings Percentage Index with a 15-1 record.
Cascade Christian was 7-3 in league and ranked No. 15 in RPI, so this was a true upset for the Rivals.
Dylin Shockley, Penina Vailolo and Teri Wiley all led the Rivals with 10 points each. Vailolo added nine rebounds and Wiley four steals, six rebounds and four assists.
The Rivals get a long break and next play at Life Christian (1-7, 2-7) on Friday.

NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay girls basketball team got off to a 19-1 start in the first quarter en route to a 65-12 victory over Coupeville on Saturday.
The Red Devils, ranked No. 1 among 1B schools in Ratings Percentage Index, were led for the second straight game by Wiinuk Martin, who had 14 points. Ryanna Moss had 12, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor, and Ezrah Ray had nine points. Eight different players on the team scored at least six points.
Neah Bay (10-2) next plays at Pacific 2B League champion Forks (8-0, 14-3) at 5:45 p.m. today.

Bainbridge 47, Sequim 31
SEQUIM — The Sequim girls basketball team struggled from the floor and lost to Olympic League-leading Bainbridge 47-31 on Saturday.
The Wolves shot just 23.3 percent (10-for-43) from the floor as Bainbridge got up by as much as 39-20 at one point.
“They jumped out on us early and never looked back,” said coach Joclin Julmist.
The Wolves were led by Gracie Chartraw with 15 points, four assists and three steals. Jolene Vaara had seven points and four rebounds.
Despite the loss, Sequim still sits in third place in the Olympic League at 6-3 (8-4 overall). The Wolves look to bounce back Tuesday on the road at North Kitsap (2-6, 7-6). Tipoff is 6:30 p.m.
