RUN THE PENINSULA: Jamestown S’Klallam Run set for Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The final race of the Run the Peninsula series, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe 5K/10K Glow Run/Walk, will take place in Blyn Saturday evening.

This is a post-dusk race along the Olympic Discovery Trail between Blyn and Sequim that begins at 4:30 p.m. Participants are required to wear headlamps or some other lighting device.

Motorists through the area Saturday evening should be aware that the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe 5K/10K event has an agreement with Clallam County giving participants the right of way on the area roads. Motorists should be prepared to stop at the following intersections from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.:

• Old Blyn Highway and the Olympic Discovery Trail.

• Dawley Road where the ODT shares the road.

• Schoolhouse Point Lane and the ODT.

• Schindler Road and the ODT.

• Barker Road and the ODT.

Still space available

The race is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that also manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon, the Elwha Bridge Run, the Railroad Bridge Run and the Larry Scott Trail Run, which are all part of the Run the Peninsula series. The race is sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette. Presenting sponsors are Jamestown Family Healthcare and the Olympic Medical Center.

About 450 runners and walkers are expected to compete, starting at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Campus at 1033 Old Blyn Highway. Competitors will head west toward Sequim on the Olympic Discovery Trial before turning around at the 5K and 10K turnaround points and then back east toward the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal campus.

Proceeds from the event go to several local organizations, including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the Olympic Discovery Trail.

More than 450 people are expected to participate. There is still space available for competitors and people can register at www.runthepeninsula.com. If people have questions, they can email at rtp@runthepeninsula.
