RUN THE PENINSULA: Elwha Bridge Run returns Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The Run the Peninsula series returns for 2023 this Saturday with the fifth annual Elwha Bridge 5K and 10K.

The run begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Elwha Pedestrian Bridge at 288 Crown Z Water Road.

Approximately 350 participants will run and walk east on the Olympic Discovery Trail beginning at the Elwha Bridge at 9:30 a.m., turning around at 5K and 10K turnarounds.

This event is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June in Port Angeles. This event is made possible by title sponsors the Peninsula Daily News and Sequim Gazette, presenting sponsors Olympic Medical Center and the Elwha Klallam Tribe. Proceeds from this event go to several local organizations, including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the trail.

There is no on-site parking. All parking will be at Extreme Sports Park (2917 W. Edgewood Drive, Port Angeles). Black Ball buses will run beginning at 7:30 am. Participants can also be dropped off at the west side of the Elwha Bridge in the designated “drop-off area.”

The Elwha Bridge Run 5K/10K event has the right of way by giving participants the Right of way on roads. Drivers should be prepared to stop at Lower Elwha Road and Kacee Way between 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

There is still space available and people can register at www.runthepeninsula.com. Registration will remain open and people will be able to register on-site Saturday morning if space is still available.

People can email at rtp@runthepeninsula if they have any questions.

Other races in the Run the Peninsula series include the Railroad Bridge Run in Sequim on April 23, the North Olympic Discovery Marathon on June 3 and 4, the Larry Scott Trail Run in Port Townsend on Oct. 14 and the Jamestown Glow Run on Dec. 2.
