RUN THE PENINSULA: Elwha Bridge Run returns Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The second annual Run the Peninsula Elwha Bridge Run 5K/10K along the Olympic Discovery Trail will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Run the Peninsula has received all approvals from the state and county to hold the race with “wave” starts. About 250 participants are expected for the 5K and 10K races, going east on the Olympic Discovery Trail from an Elwha River Bridge start.

The event is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, which also puts on the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June in Port Angeles. Title sponsors are the Peninsula Daily News and Sequim Gazette and presenting sponsors are Olympic Medical Center and the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.

Proceeds from this event goes to several local organizations including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the trail.

The Elwha Bridge Run 5K/10K has the right-of-way with Clallam County. Drivers should be prepared to stop at the intersection of Lower Elwha Road and Kacee Way between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

There is still space available. People can register at www.tinyurl.com/73ca8wne

Registration will close at 6 p.m. Friday. There will be no on-site registration. If people have questions, they can email at rtp@runthepeninsula.com.
