PORT ANGELES — Saturday is the return of the Run the Peninsula series with the seventh annual Elwha Bridge 5K and 10K.
About 450 hardy people are expected to run or walk from the Elwha Pedestrian Bridge east along the Olympic Discovery trail, returning west at the 5K and 10K turnarounds to finish at the bridge. The race begins at 9:30 a.m.
The event is organized by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June between Blyn and Port Angeles.
The Elwha Bridge Run is made possible by title sponsors Peninsula Daily News and Sequim Gazette, and presenting sponsors Olympic Medical Center and the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Proceeds from the event support several local organizations, including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Participants can pick up their race bibs at:
Friday: Angeles Brewing (115 N. Oak Street in Port Angeles) from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: Elwha Pedestrian Bridge from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., just prior to the start of the race.
Participants are encouraged to pick up their bibs on Friday if possible to avoid race-day congestion. However, race-day pickup will also be available.
There is no on-site parking at the Elwha Pedestrian Bridge. All participants are required to park at Extreme Sports Park at 2917 W. Edgewood Drive, Port Angeles. Puget Sound Express and ESP buses will shuttle participants to the starting area beginning at 8 a.m. Participants may also be dropped off at a designated “drop-off area” on the west side of the Elwha Bridge.
The Elwha Bridge Run has obtained a permit from Clallam County to control traffic at trail intersections with county roads, granting pedestrians the right-of-way during the race. The intersection of Lower Elwha Road and Kacee Way will be monitored from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Run the Peninsula series also includes the Sequim Railroad Bridge 5K/10K on April 26, the North Olympic Discovery Marathon on June 7 (5K, 10K and kids’ marathon) and June 8 (half-marathon and marathon), the Spruce Railroad Run on Oct. 4 and the Jamestown S’Klallam Glow Run on Dec. 6.
