TUKWILA — Port Angeles’ Abby Robinson finished 10th at the Class 1A/2A WIAA state bowling tournament held at Bowlero South Seattle.
Robinson averaged a score of 164 pins per game and had games of 169, 192, 151, 139, 157, 181 for a total of 989.
Only nine pins separated the sixth- and 10th-place finishers.
Robinson also posted the highest score of any Olympic League bowler.
Roughriders teammate Paige Pangaro averaged a 156 and finished 15th overall.
Her six game scores were 120, 190, 148, 160, 154, 164.
“What they accomplished in their short, successful careers has set the bar for the future of the program,” coach Rebecca Gundersen said.
Red Devils hold back Loggers
JOYCE — Neah Bay’s Seactis Woodruff led the way with 14 points as the Red Devils’ balanced attack picked up the North Olympic League win.
Tyler Swan, Makyah Chambers and Jodell Wimberly each totaled nine points for Neah Bay.
Crescent coach Chris Ferrier was proud of his team’s effort in one of the closest games between the schools in years.
“Boy, we gave it all we had,” Ferrier said. “We played about 28, 29 minutes of as complete a ballgame as we’ve had here in a while. The second quarter was obviously a bit difficult in the last three minutes, and we weren’t able to get back to them.
“[Neah Bay] is really skilled. They can put five guys on the floor that can do good things with the ball. They’re a tough matchup for us, and really for anyone. They should do well in the postseason.”
Crescent was led by Henry Bourm with 12 points, Mikah Love with 11 and Lukas Love adding 10.
Ferrier is understandably proud of his team and its play.
“I’m excited about my guys. We didn’t back down for a second,” Ferrier said.
“We got balanced scoring again. Mikah and Henry knocked down some open shots, Lukas got the ball to the basket and showed persistence against their bigger guys.
“Woodruff really is a tough guy to guard, a mobile 6-3-ish guy with skills. We tried to bottle him up, but props to the kid.”
Crescent (3-2, 16-3) plays at Chief Kitsap today with a postseason spot on the line.
Neah Bay (5-0, 12-3) visits Taholah on Saturday.
