Ridgefield Raptors strike out Lefties again

Port Angeles falls 8-2

PORT ANGELES — Ridgefield continued its mastery of Port Angeles in an 8-2 defeat of the Lefties on Wednesday evening at Civic Field.

It was the Raptors’ fifth victory in five games this month over Port Angeles.

And it was a familiar villain getting the scoring started for Ridgefield as WCL Player of the Week John Peck doubled and scored on a Coby Morales single for a 1-0 lead after the first half inning.

Peck is batting 13 for 23 (.565) against Lefties pitching.

The Raptors (20-12) added two more in the second before Port Angeles got on the board when Javi Espinoza doubled home catcher Nathan Chong, who had led off the inning with a base hit.

Lefties’ starter Corey Sanchez recorded the first two outs of the fourth inning via strikeout but was chased from the game when Ridgefield put together a two-out rally, scoring on an RBI single by Morales and a fleet piece of base running by Caden Connor.

Nick Oakley added an RBI double in the ninth inning to score Tommy Takayoshi to account for Port Angeles’ other run.

The Lefties (8-21) begin a three-game set with the Cowlitz Black Bears (13-16) tonight at 6:35 p.m.

League stats

Port Angeles players are included in the West Coast League’s weekly and season distance leader boards for home run shots.

Oakley’s 404-foot homer on July 14 was the second-longest hit of the week, behind the 414-foot shot of Bellingham’s Malakhi Knight.

On the season, Lefties catcher Jack Holman’s 428-foot bomb back on July 1 is the fourth-longest tape-measure job of the summer, two feet behind Ridgefield’s Kody Darcy, who launched a 430-foot bomb on June 8.
