PREP SOFTBALL: Forks sweep and leapfrog Ilwaco

Monster day for Bailey Johnson, Chloe Gaydeski

FORKS — The Forks softball team got huge games from Bailey Johnson and Chloe Gaydeski in sweeping Ilwaco at home 9-1 and 17-1, vaulting the Spartans past the Fishermen in the Pacific 2B League standings.

With the sweep, Forks sits at 5-5 in league, one game ahead of 4-6 Ilwaco, with a chance to finish third in the league behind Raymond-South Bend and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley.

The Spartans pounded out 27 hits on the day with several players filling up the scoreboard. Leading the way was Johnson, who was 2-for-4 in the first game with two solo home runs. She was 3-for-4 in the second game with a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs.

Gaydeski’s numbers were nearly as good. She was 2-for-4 in the first game with a double and two runs scored and 3-for-3 in the second game with a home run, a double and three RBIs.

Gaydeski also pitched a complete game in the first victory, striking out 15 in seven innings. She allowed three hits and no earned runs. She and Johnson combined for an five-inning no-hitter in the second game. Gaydeski picked up another five strikeouts in three innings for 20 total strikeouts on the day. Johnson pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Fynlie Peters had a double, while Avery Dilley was 4-for-7 on the day with a double and three RBIs. Brooklyn Rondeau was 2-for-2 in the first game, while Lilly Jacobson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the second game. Pearl Salazar had a hit and three runs scored, while Kendyl Woody had three RBIs in the second game.

Forks (5-5, 9-8) is done with league play and next plays at Hoquiam on Friday, then will await postseason seeding in the district tournament.
