Boys Soccer Forks 1, Hoquiam 0

HOQUIAM — Margarito Gonzalez converted a second-half penalty kick and the Spartans stayed alive in the Class 1A District 4 playoff chase with a 1-0 win on the road over Hoquiam.

Forks coach Ismael Ramos said the back-and-forth game turned 15 minutes into the second half.

“Hoquiam fouled us in the box, tried to slide tackle Darinel Garcia, and we got a penalty and Margarito hit it,” Ramos said.

“Hoquiam had a few opportunites, some good one-on-one chances against [goalkeeper] Juan Terrones, and he made some really good saves.”

Ramos also praised Mario Reyes for his play at right midfielder.

“Mario is a swing player who came up with some guys out, and he helped us out,” Ramos said.

Forks (7-6, 7-7) needs to beat Chief Leschi on Tuesday and have unbeaten Raymond-South Bend beat Elma (9-5) also on Tuesday to make Thursday’s Elma at Forks regular season finale a winner-to-district game.
