PREPS ROUNDUP: Port Angeles girls basketball team wins by 39

Port Angeles Roughriders

SILVERDALE — The Roughriders clamped down on defense and got an early boost from Anna Petty in thumping the Trojans on the road 60-21.

“Anna Petty helped us get off to a great start by scoring seven of her nine points in the first four minutes of the game,” coach Michael Poindexter said. Petty added three steals, part of the 31 Olympic turnovers forced by Port Angeles.

Jaida Wood and Millie Long led Port Angeles in scoring with 11 points apiece. Wood hauled down a team-high nine rebounds and tied for the team high in steals with Eve Burke with four. Long added a team-best six assists.

“Olympic played man-to-man [defense] for much of the game, and we were successful at scoring inside, hitting 49 percent of our two-point attempts,” Poindexter said. “Later in the game, they shifted to a 2-3 zone, and we got a number of open looks but had trouble making 3-point shots [4 for 28].”

Port Angeles (3-0) next plays at Sequim (1-0) at 6 p.m. today.
