Tennis off to Olympic League Championships

POULSBO — Lynzee Reid and Ava-Anne Sheahan each homered, doubled and drove in three runs as Port Angeles powered past North Kitsap 11-5 in an Olympic League softball showdown Wednesday.

The win kept the Roughriders (10-1, 13-2) a game ahead of Olympic (10-2, 16-3) for the top spot in the Olympic League standings.

Sophia Ritchie had two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Morgan Politka added two hits, including a double.

Kennedy Rognlien had an RBI single and Lexie Smith also had a base hit.

Heidi Leitz went the distance in the circle, striking out four.

Port Angeles hosts North Mason today.

Baseball

Sequim 6, Bremerton 4

SEQUIM — The Wolves slugged three triples in the contest as Sequim won its third straight Olympic League contest entering postseason play Monday.

Bryant Laboy’s third-inning triple to center field brought home Devyn Dearinger with the eventual winning run.

Braydan White added his triple in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch to give himself some insurance on the mound.

White closed out the game, allowing one hit and two walks with four strikeouts over three innings after taking over for starter Ethan Staples.

Staples had Sequim’s other triple and drove in a run in the game.

The Wolves (7-7, 8-12) finished tied for fourth in the Olympic League standings with Olympic.

Sequim will find out its district playoff seeding this weekend and will either host or go on the road for a loser-out contest Monday.

District games in PA

PORT ANGELES — Sixth-seeded Port Angeles and No. 8 seed Sequim will each host loser-out West Central District 3 Class 2A boys soccer tournament games at Peninsula College’s Wally Sigmar Field on Saturday.

The Wolves (6-8) will host No. 9 seed Steilacoom (6-8-2) at 12:30 p.m.

The Roughriders (10-6) will host No. 11 Olympic (5-9) at 3 p.m.

Plotner shines

UNIVERSITY PLACE — Kaydence Plotner had the best day of a any East Jefferson athlete at the Nisqually League’s fourth meet at Charles Wright Academy on Wednesday.

Plotner won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.29 seconds and was second in the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 4 inches.

The Rivals boys and girls each fielded limited teams and finished ninth at the meet.

East Jefferson will compete in the Nisqually District meet starting May 17.
