PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles managed to fit in a boys tennis match in between the rain drops this week as the Roughriders dominated Olympic 7-0 in a home match held Thursday.
“Port Angeles was in control from the beginning against the short-handed Trojans and didn’t drop a set on their way to the win,” coach Brian Gundersen said.
The Riders (6-1) are set to host Bainbridge on Wednesday.

Girls Soccer Sequim 5, Bremerton 1
BREMERTON — Senior midfielder Jenny Gomez collected a hat trick and dished out an assist as the Wolves shook off a slow start on the road.
“We weren’t connecting passes and were a little disjointed to start,” coach Ken Garling said. “It was cold and rainy, maybe that had something to do with it, but we weren’t connecting on our passes in the first 20 minutes like we normally do.
Sequim striker Taryn Johnson found Gomez for the game’s first goal in the 23rd minute.
“Taryn Johnson sent a nice through ball to Jenny and she buried it in the back of the net,” Garling said.
Johnson found Gomez again about 10 minutes later.
“In the 32nd minute Taryn dribbled the ball through to the corner, turned their outside left back and got a cross in to the 6-yard box and Jenny was right there to tap it in the back of the net. Such a great pass and goal.”
Gomez returned the favor on Johnson’s 66th minute goal for a 3-0 Wolves’ lead.
Johnson notched her second score in the 72nd minute.
Gomez notched her third goal in the 75th minute.
“Our outside right back Harper Moore made a great run up the outside and she found Jenny with a cross and Jenny buried it into the corner,” Garling said. “We were happy to see Jenny get her hat trick and Harper to show great vision and execution.
Bremerton scored a goal in the final minute to avoid the shutout.
Crosspoint 5, East Jefferson 0
BREMERTON — The Rivals fell to the Class 2B Warriors, an undefeated squad which previously beat Class 2A Bremerton.
“We were short-handed,” coach Rob Cantley said. “Iris [Mattern] is away checking out her college program at Eastern [Washington] and there was a homecoming assembly and we had to wait for some girls to get to the game.
“We got caught on a few counterattacks to give up goals,” Cantley said. “We just tried to work on our fundamentals.”
East Jefferson (1-3-1, 1-4-1) hosts Life Christian today at noon.
Girls Swimming Port Angeles 144, Kingston 14
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders won 11 of 12 events and received a state-caliber performance from senior standout Harper McGuire in the 500-yard freestyle.
McGuire led Port Angeles to a sweep in the 500 free.
“In a remarkable swim, Harper McGuire nabbed first place while also claiming the first state championship time for the team,” coach Sally Cole said. “Her performance was nothing short of extraordinary, beating the state qualifying time by a staggering 6 seconds. Danika Asgeirsson grabbed second and Olivia Mesen third.”
McGuire also won the 200 free and teamed with Lizzy Shaw, Amayah Nelson and Yau Fu for a victory in the 200 free relay.
Shaw led the Riders to a sweep of the 50 free, with Danika Asgeirsson second and Flora Sullivan third.
Shaw teamed with Asgeirsson, Brooke St. Luise and Fu to take the individual medley relay.
The Riders went on to sweep the rest of the events in the meet.
St. Luise, Faye Dachs and Sullivan finished top three in the 100 backstroke.
To cap off the individual events, Chloe Kay-Sanders, Olivia Mesen, and Dorothy Fettermann finished first, second, and third, respectively in the 100 breast.
The meet concluded with the 400 free relay team of Lynzee Reid, Asgeirsson, Nelson, and McGuire securing a resounding win.
“The most improved swimmers of the meet were Lizzy Shaw and Faye Dachs in the 100 free,” Cole said. “Shaw showcased remarkable improvement, shaving off 4.5 seconds and taking home another districts qualifying time. While Dachs made a significant improvement of 3.5 seconds from just two days ago.
