FORKS — Keira Johnson scored 28 points, all in the first half, as Forks cruised to a 59-15 Pacific League girls basketball win over North Beach.
“It was 2-1 there and we went on a little 49-0 run to end the first half,” coach David Hurn said.
“We knew we were probably going to overmatch this team, they are young and rebuilding, so we wthe ent into game with a focus on execution, sometimes you can get sloppy and fall into bad habits against a less-talented team.”
Johnson also had seven steals and seven rebounds.
Hurn said his squad hit their shots against the Hyaks.
“We were able to shoot the ball, our 3-point percentage was there and it was nice to hit our open shots and get some confidence going. We also shared the ball really well, we had 13 assists in the first half.”
And the Spartans sat their starters for the entire second half.
Eighth-grader Fynlie Peters made her varsity debut with four points.
And Hurn praised Casadie Whorton.
“Casadie is a senior for us and I thought she played a really nice game defensively” Hurn said. “She created some deflections, she was rotating on defense and really made an impact.”
Forks (1-0, 1-1) visits South Bend tonight.

Boys Basketball Crescent 69, Wishkah Valley 8
ABERDEEN — The Loggers improved to 3-0 behind Lukas Love’s 18 points and the 10 points and nine-rebounds of Kadon Love.
“Obviously, a bit of a mismatch,” coach Chris Ferrier said. “Wishkah is trying to rebuild their program and have a team of young guys. We rotated subs pretty constantly and backed off the defensive pressure. It was a really good opportunity for younger and less experienced guys to get some time for us. We were able to move the ball against the zone and even scored after we put some restraints on our guys and what they could do.”

PORT TOWNSEND — The Rivals topped the Eagles in a Nisqually League meet Wednesday.
“The official score was 33-18, but it was not that close and the Rivals outwrestled them all night,” coach Steve Grimm said. “We only lost two matches all night.”
Mi Amada Lanphear Ramirez picked up a big six points for the Rivals varsity, earning a pin at 120-pounds to beat her fellow state-ranked opponent Mya Young.
East Jefferson’s 220-pounder Devon Bennett Anderson also won by pin, as did heavyweight Lars Wakefield and 152-pounder Manaseh Lanphear Ramirez.
Grady White earned a win in a six-point decision for the Rivals
In girls matches, Ivy Hill and Chloe Lampert each earned wins by pin at 125 pounds.
Melody Douglas also pinned down a win for the Rivals at 155.
“We are a young team, but we have a big senior group backed up by a talented and fiery group of freshmen,” Grimm said. I am proud of our seniors for leading the way. Our senior girls are amazing and simply just at a higher level of expertise than anyone else they have seen. They are pushing each other everyday in practice and the results are showing. Currently, only Mi Amada is ranked, but I think soon we will have a few more joining her.”
