Forks' Mario Flores gets in the way of the ball and Montesano's Felix Romero during the Spartans' 3-1 loss to the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

PREPS: Forks boys soccer can’t tame Bulldogs

FORKS — Forks knotted the score after halftime but couldn’t find any more offense as Montesano wrestled away a 3-1 Evergreen League boys soccer victory Wednesday at Spartan Stadium.

The Spartans (0-3) allowed the Bulldogs to score almost right off the bus, as Montesano’s Felix Romero buried a shot in net, assisted by Levi Clements, in the fourth minute.

Forks settled down and eventually responded with a goal in the 50th minute when Mateo Lucas scored off a throw-in by Mario Flores.

The Bulldogs would break the tie when Romero scored his second of the game, assisted by sophomore midfielder Cris Tobar, in the 64th minute.

Four minutes later, Romero returned the favor, sending a feed to Tobar for a goal in the 68th minute.

Forks managed just the one shot on goal, while Montesano totaled 11 shots, six on target.

The Spartans visit Raymond-South Bend tonight at 7 p.m.

GIG HARBOR — The Wolves strung together three straight hits in their first at bats of the game and held a 1-0 lead after their half of the first inning, but it was all Tides after that.

Mia Kirner doubled and scored on Taylee Rome’s single to right field for a 1-0 Sequim lead. Mikki Green followed with a single to left, but the Wolves couldn’t add any further scores.

The Class 3A squad took control of the game with a six-run first inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Gracie Carey, the first of two home runs for Carey.

Sequim (1-1, 1-2) hosts defending state champion North Kitsap on Tuesday.
