PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson boys and girls golfers served as hosts at the Port Townsend Invitational for Nisqually League teams from Cascade Christian, Klahowya, Charles Wright and Vashon.
The nine-hole stroke play tournament was held at Port Townsend Golf Club on a sunny Thursday afternoon.
East Jefferson was led by Lane Liske, who shot a 10-over-par 45 to earn seventh-place finish in the boys competition.
Tyler White had a 48, Nick Winegar a 52 and Ryan Olson shot 57 to round out the Rivals’ boys golfers.
Cascade Christian’s John Nixon posted a 4-over-par 39 to win the individual competition by one stroke over teammate Zeke Prociw.
Charles Wright took the boys team title with a four-man total of 175 strokes. Cascade Christian (179), Klahowya (190), East Jefferson (202) and Vashon (223) rounded out the team scores.
In the girls side of the tournament, Cascade Christian’s Sophie Janho shot 45 to lead the Cougars (194 strokes) to the team title. Klahowya was second with 222, Vashon (245) was third and Charles Wright totaled 269.
Rivals’ golfers Sophie Heitstand and Ana Cole each shot 69 in the girls portion of the invitational. They were paired with two “ghost” golfers to fill out the four-person format and totaled 278 strokes.
East Jefferson will take on Cascade Christian at Tacoma’s Meadow Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
Boys Soccer Bainbridge 10, Sequim 0
SEQUIM — The Wolves have improved this season, but they were no match for the league-leading Spartans. “Bainbridge is a well-organized team that is hungry and it showed by their performance,” coach Juan Carlos Cisneros said.
“We could not match their level of play.”
Sequim (4-8-0) visits Bremerton on Tuesday.
Klahowya 4, East Jefferson 1
PORT TOWNSEND — The Rivals closed out their season by celebrating seniors Conner Scanlon, Justice Beebe, Ashton Meyer-Bibbins, Sean Botkin and Isaac Gurney.
East Jefferson trailed 2-1 at halftime and was in the contest against the Eagles deep into the second half.
“Armando Sanchez headed in a free kick that got us back in the game and pretty confident,” coach Rob Cantley said.
The Rivals(3-9-1, 3-10-1) were hurt by two yellow cards for a uniform violation, another yellow card on a tackle to send Beebe off and a penalty in the box that resulted in a penalty kick goal and another red card sendoff.
“It was a reboot of a season having such a big freshman class, over half the team was freshmen,” Cantley said.
“It’s difficult when you are 14 or 15 and have to play against 17-or 18-year olds but they started to lose the fear factor toward the end”
