CHIMACUM — East Jefferson volleyball took Life Christian to the limit in a five-set Nisqually League thriller, 20-25, 25-19, 25-13, 19-25, 15-13 on Wednesday night at Chimacum High School.
Sophia Petta totaled 21 hits for the Rivals, nine of them kills. Petta added 20 saves, two of them aces, and 41 digs.
Stephanie Duran Sanchez added 23 digs and recorded aces on three of her nine serves.
Penina Vailolo led the Rivals with 33 hits, 10 of them kills, along with four blocks.
Emily Liske chipped in with three aces and 16 hits.
East Jefferson (0-3, 4-8) visits Charles Wright tonight.
Girls Swim & Dive Port Angeles 127, Klahowya 37
BREMERTON — The Roughriders showcased their depth and talent, winning nine out of 11 events to cap off their dual-meet season on a high note.
“This meet was a meaningful milestone for seniors and co-captains Danika Asgeirsson and Brooke St. Luise, who closed out their high school dual meet careers with distinction,” coach Sally Cole said. “Both athletes rose to the occasion, delivering standout performances and achieving personal bests in their individual events.”
The 200-yard medley relay team of St. Luise, Lizzy Shaw, Amayah Nelson and Asgeirsson set the tone early with a commanding first-place finish, completing the race 21 seconds ahead of Klahowya.
Port Angeles kept the momentum rolling by sweeping the 200 freestyle, with Asgeirsson taking first, followed by Emerson DuBois and Mia Francis.
The Roughriders repeated the sweep in the 200 individual medley, led by Lynzee Reid, who earned a personal best. Chloe Kay-Sanders was second and Damun Seera claimed third with her own best time.
St. Luise added to the Riders’ success, winning the 50 Free, with Sally Kasten close behind.
Klahowya managed to grab its first win of the night in the 100 butterfly, but Port Angeles bounced back with another dominant sweep in the 100 free. Shaw touched first, followed by Lucy Townsend and Lilly Mahaney.
The Riders displayed further endurance in the 500 free as Nelson led the way to earn the win. Asgeirsson shaved an impressive 13 seconds off her previous time while finishing second, and DuBois rounded out the sweep.
The 200 free relay team of Kasten, St. Luise, Reid and Shaw cruised to victory, finishing a staggering 52 seconds ahead of Klahowya.
In the 100 back, the Eagles managed their second and final win of the night, but St. Luise stayed competitive, earning second with a personal best.
Shaw continued her stellar meet with a first-place finish in the 100 breast, and Francis claimed second, improving her time by 1.75 seconds.
The evening wrapped up with yet another commanding performance from the winning 400 free relay team of Asgeirsson, DuBois, Nelson and Reid.
Up next, eight of Port Angeles’ top swimmers will head to North Kitsap on Saturday for the annual Swimvitational Meet, then Port Angeles will host the League Divisionals meet on Oct. 26.
