PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles basketball fans can pack the home gym Thursday night for the Roughriders’ huge game against North Kitsap.
The Port Angeles School District announced Monday that there will be no capacity limits at sporting and performance events, just in time for Thursday’s monster game at 7 p.m. with the Vikings.
While there are no capacity limits spectators must still wear masks, both inside the gym and outdoors on school property. People are also asked to keep a physical distance of three feet outside of their family pods, and people are asked to not attend events if they are experiencing COVID-like symptoms.
The rule change comes at the end of the winter sports schedule. The Port Angeles girls basketball team has no more home games, but both the boys and girls teams could be hosting district playoff games from Feb. 16-19.
People who would prefer to watch games online can do so at www.nfhsnetwork.com, which is streaming many local high school basketball games.
Spring sports, which are outdoors, begin in March.
Sequim Athletic Director Dave Ditlefsen said the Sequim School District is considering a similar relaxation of restrictions. Forks Athletic Director Kyle Weakley said Forks is relaxing its spectator capacity limits, though the school is finished hosting winter sporting events. All of its remaining basketball games and wrestling meets are on the road.
