PREPS: All-Olympic League baseball, soccer and girls tennis all-league teams announced

SEQUIM — A number of players on Sequim’s state tournament boys soccer squad were honored with Olympic League All-League honors in voting conducted by league coaches.

Wolves’ senior midfielder Brandon Wagner, a Peninsula College committ, earned a first-team selection along with classmate Aidan Henninger, a first-team pick as a defender who will play at NCAA Division III Franciscan University in Ohio.

Port Angeles junior midfielder Dayton Williams was a first-team pick as well.

Sequim senior Brandon Charters earned a second-team nod in the midfield, while senior goalkeeper Jack Van. De Wege also was a second-team choice.

Van De Wege also earned the Wolves’ Sportsmanship Award.

Port Angeles senior Xander Maestas was a second-team pick in his first year of high school soccer.

Roughriders junior Josiah Long was Port Angeles’ Sportsmanship Award winner.

Bremerton’s Jeremy Ford and Bainbridge Island’s John Roman shared Olympic League MVP honors.

Baseball Olympic League

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles and Sequim players are represented on the Olympic League’s 2022 All-League Baseball Team.

Three Roughriders’ seniors were selected to the all-league first team by league coaches: infielder Elijah Flodstrom, designated hitter John Vaara and outfielder Beckett Jarnagin.

Earlier this week, Jarnagin went 2 for 3 with a double, run and two RBIs in the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable’s Senior All-Star Baseball to earn the MVP award for the Nationals team in a 14-7 loss to the Americans.

Jarnagin was nominated to play in the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association All-State Series June 25-26 in Yakima.

Sequim senior Connor Bear earned a first-team nod as a utility player.

Port Angeles senior James Burkhardt was a second-team pick in the outfield, while Roughrider hurlers Colton Romero, a sophomore, and Kole Acker, a junior, also were second-team selections.

Port Angeles senior Michael Soule and Sequim senior Jaxson Gray earned Sportsmanship awards for their respective squads.

Bainbridge senior pitcher JR Ritchie, a UCLA commit who projects to be one of the first prep pitchers taken later this month in the MLB Draft, was named the Olympic League MVP.

Nisqually League

East Jefferson athletes were selected to the Nisqually League’s All-League Baseball Team in voting conducted by league coaches.

Sophomore Brody Moore earned a second-team nod as a pitcher while senior teammate Owen Thornton was a second-team selection in the infield.

The Rivals’ Nathaniel Nayler and Aaron Glanz earned Honorable Mention honors.

Bellevue Christian junior Taylor Franklin was named Nisqually League MVP. The league and district-champion Vikings won the Class 1A state championship last week.

Girls Tennis

PORT ANGELES — A number of Port Angeles and Sequim girls tennis players were named to the Olympic League All-League Team in voting held by league coaches.

The Wolves’ selections are Kendall Hastings, Jordan Hegtvedt, Alexis Gale and Malorey Morey.

The Roughriders’ Liberty Lauer, Angelina Sprague, and Kinnley Brady were chosen for the team.

Morey and Sprague earned Sportsmanship Awards for Sequim and Port Angeles, respectively.

The Roughriders also were honored with the Olympic League’s Team Sportsmanship Award.
