PREPS: 2018-19 All-Peninsula Girls Basketball team

The 2018-19 All-Peninsula Girls Basketball Team:

• MVP: Madison Cooke, soph. Port Angeles (Forward)

Olympic League MVP, Class 2A All-State Tournament second team; Associated Press Class 2A All-State honorable mention.

• Laila Greene, soph., Neah Bay (Guard)

North Olympic League Defensive MVP averaged 13.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.4 assists per game and shot 48 percent from the floor, including 44 percent on 3-point tries as Red Devils finished third in state.

• Courtney Swan, soph., Neah Bay (Guard)

North Olympic League Offensive MVP posted totals of 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3.8 assists per game. Voted to The Associated Press’ Class 1B all-state team.

• Jayla Julmist, soph., Sequim (Center)

All-Olympic League first-team selection made teams think twice about driving to the rim averaging a double-double for the season with 10.3 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.8 blocks. Put up 19 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks in state tournament game against Port Angeles.

• Hope Glasser, jr., Sequim (Forward)

All-Olympic League first-teamer averaged 11.8 points, eight rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals for Wolves.

•  Eve Burke, fr., Port Angeles (Forward)

A vital contributor from the start as a freshman for the Riders. Averaged 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game and was an All-Olympic League second-team pick.

• Mia McNair, soph., Chimacum (Guard)

Olympic League 1A Division MVP averaged around 20 points per game and had numerous steals for Cowboys.

• Millie Long, soph., Port Angeles (Guard)

A broken finger kept Long out of six regular season games but the energy Long brings is too important to the Riders to keep her off this team. Voted to the All-Olympic League first team.

• Kalli Wiker, soph., Sequim (Forward)

Wiker averaged 12 points and 42 percent shooting on 3-point shots.

• Chloe Leverington, soph., Forks (Center)

Averaged a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds a game for Spartans. Earned honorable mention All-Evergreen League honors.

• Rian Peters, jr., Forks (Guard)

Second-team All-Evergreen League choice posted 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals per game for the Spartans.

• Jaida Wood, soph., Port Angeles (Forward)

All-Olympic League 2A Division first-teamer was second on the Roughriders in scoring with 11 points per game.

• Honorable Mention

Jessica Dietzman, jr. , Sequim; Cei’J Gagnon, jr. , Neah Bay; Oceanna Aguirre, freshman, Neah Bay; Jada Trafton, sr., Chimacum; Grace Yaley, sr., Chimacum; Izzy Hammett, jr. , Port Townsend; Bailee Larson, fr., Port Angeles; Mikkiah Brady, jr. , Port Angeles; Hannah Olson, sr., Clallam Bay; Miriam Wonderly, sr., Clallam Bay; Cedar Johnson, soph., Clallam Bay.

• Coaches of the Year

Neah Bay’s Tina Grimes took the reigns for the Red Devils just before the season started and led the team to a program best third-place finish at the Class 1B state basketball tournament. Sequim’s Linsay Rapelje returned to the Sequim sidelines a game into the season and led the Wolves to the team’s fourth-ever state tournament appearance.
