PREP WRESTLING: Port Angeles takes fifth at Dream Duals

SPOKANE — The Port Angeles wrestling team went 2-1 and placed fifth out of nine teams at the Washington Dream Duals at East Valley High School.

The Roughriders lost the opener of what is considered the unofficial dual meet state championships to the defending and eventual repeat champion East Valley Knights 47-30.

Due to an unusual bracket, that loss meant fifth place was the highest Port Angeles could finish.

The Riders rebounded with a come-from-behind win against perennial power Deer Park 39-38. Port Angeles trailed the Stags 32-6 before staging the comeback.

The Riders then handled the Tumwater Thunderbirds 56-22 to finish in fifth place.

Port Angeles finishes with an overall dual meet record of 14-2 for the season.

The Riders next host the JV/Olympic Mountain Wrestling Challenge on Saturday at 10 a.m. and will then host the Olympic League 2A Sub-Regionals on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.
