PREP WRESTLING: Olympic Peninsula grapplers pick up eight firsts at KLM tourney

SILVERDALE — Port Angeles, Sequim and East Jefferson wrestling teams combined for eight first-place finishes and a couple of dozen grapplers placing at the Keigen Langholff Memorial wrestling tournament held at Klahowya High School this weekend.

The Port Angeles boys finished fifth as a team with 92.5 points. Sequim made a strong showing, coming in seventh with 72 points and East Jefferson was ninth with 52.5 points. Central Kitsap won with 149 points.

The East Jefferson girls were 10th and second among girls with 48 points, while the Port Angeles girls were right behind at 46. The Sequim girls were 15th with 12 points.

Taking first for the Roughriders with three straight pins was Raymond Rodriguez at 120 pounds, beating Eddie Cormier-Higgins of Muckleshoot, the No. 2-ranked 1B wrestler in the state, in the championship match.

Port Angeles’ Natalie Johnson took first in the girls 100-105 with a pair of pins. Her teammate Willow Harvey won at 125-130 pounds with three straight pins.

East Jefferson’s Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez won at 145 pounds with two pins, a technical fall and a 16-2 major decision over Aaron Tolberd of Sequim.

Sequim’s Cayden Beauregard won at 106 pounds with three straight wins.

The East Jefferson girls did especially well, with three first-place finishes. Mi Amada Lanphear won at 113 pounds with two pins and an 11-8 decision over Carson Wintch of Klahowya. Her teammate Chloe Lampert won at 120 pounds with a pin and a 9-4 decision over Deija Diego of Central Kitsap.

Finally, Melody Douglas of East Jefferson took first at 145-155 pounds with a pair of pins over Linley Wolfard-Henry.

Making it to the championship matches and finishing second were Sequim’s Tolberd and Ari Skov at 170 pounds, James Henery of East Jefferson at 152 pounds, and Thomas Arand of Port Angeles at 182 pounds.

Port Angeles and Sequim boys wrestle at the Olympic League subregionals Saturday in Bremerton.

East Jefferson, Port Angeles and Sequim girls are at a subregional meet in White River (Buckley) on Saturday.

The East Jefferson boys are at a Nisqually League meet at Life Christian in Tacoma on Saturday.
