PREP WRESTLING: Forks boys win Tony Saldivar Ironman tournament

GRANGER — A year after coming in second at the same tournament, the Forks boys wrestling team won the Tony Saldivar Ironman meet held at Granger High School this weekend.

Forks won the two-day meet with 212.5 points, just barely edging Granger’s 209.5. Deer Park, a wrestling powerhouse, came in third at 193.5.

Forks won in two weight divisions. Matthew Montes took first at 113 pounds with a 7-1 decision over Peyton Miller of East Valley in the championship bout. He went 4-0 during the weekend.

Sloan Tumaua took first in the 285-pound weight division with a 10-4 decision over Noah Bigboy-Gribble of Omak. He went 3-0 during the meet.

Forks’ Conner Demorest and Nate Dahlgren made it to their championship bouts. Demorest finished second at 126 pounds and Dahlgren was second at 182 pounds.

Several other Forks wrestlers placed. They included:

• Walker Rondeau, third, 132 pounds.

• Kaleb Blanton, third, 152 pounds.

• Sebastian Qunneke, third, 220 pounds.

• Jesus Garcia Dominguez, fourth, 113 pounds.

• Walker Wheeler, fourth, 145 pounds.

Port Angeles, Sequim

FIFE — The Port Angeles boys wrestling team finished 11th and Sequim 16th at the Larry Brown Invitational Tournament held in Fife.

Doing the best for Port Angeles was Aidric McBride at 132 pounds. He finished second after making it to the championship bout. McBride made it to the championship with a pair of pins and a win by forfeit.

Other Olympic Peninsula wrestlers who placed included:

• Tony McMahon, PA, fourth, 145 pounds.

• Aaron Tolberd, Sequim, fourth, 160 pounds.

• Raymond Rodriguez, PA, fifth, 126 pounds.

• Dylan Bowen, Sequim, fifth, 182 pounds.

Port Angeles finished with 73 points and Sequim 43. Auburn won the event with 188 points.

Forks girls

GRANGER — Forks had several girls who placed in the Tony Saldivar girls meet and finished second as a team with 88 points.

Doing the best for the Spartans were LaRayne Blair, who came in third at 105 pounds, Lillianna Galeana, who finished third at 110 pounds, Jameson Demorest, who finished third at 120 pounds and Kansas Jackson, who came in third at 235 pounds.

Blair had three pins in her meet, while Galeana had a pin and a 9-4 decision. Demorest had three pins, including one in just 15 seconds.

Toppenish won the girls meet with 256 points.

Other Forks girls who placed included:

• Allie Coons, fourth, 100 pounds.

• Morgan Rule, fourth, 155 pounds.

• Miley Blanton, sixth, 125 pounds.
