East Jefferson Rivals

PREP WRESTLING: EJ wrestlers get three champions over weekend

Forks girls fourth at Grizzly Stocking Stuffer

VASHON — East Jefferson’s Grady White won in the 157-pound weight class at The Rock Wrestling Invitational this weekend on Vashon Island.

White, ranked No. 10 in the state, pinned the No. 11-ranked wrestler, Ben Howard of Montesano to win the title.

”Grady was locked in all day. He’s been working hard all year and was motivated to win that title,” said coach Stephen Grimm.

East Jefferson’s Manaseh Lanphear Ramirez also made it to the championship match, taking second at 150 pounds.

”He also wrestled quick and smooth all day. [He] ended up coming up short against the No. 1 state ranked 1A wrestler Myles Christian from Lakeside in a competitive matchup,” Grimm said. “This was a great opportunity for us to compare ourselves to the best 1A kids in the state. The semifinals and finals at almost every weight was full of state-ranked kids. I think Grady and Manaseh proved they belonged with the best and have the ability to beat the best.”

The East Jefferson girls wrestled at the Hawkins Memorial Tournament at North Mason High School with two first-place finishes and two seconds.

Savvy Grimm came in first at 105 pounds, while Gracee Liske was first at 120. Making it to their championship matches and finishing second were Lenore Geeland at 145 and Ursula Schmidt at 155.
