PORT ANGELES — The Sequim volleyball team got off to a hot start and got near-perfect serving all match in beating Port Angeles 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-20) on Saturday.
The Wolves’ Ali Gale served 27-for-27 with three aces while Amanda Weller served 25-for-25 with six aces and five kills. Overall, the entire team only missed one serve in the first three games of the match and just four for the entire match — the teams played an extra two games to get in additional play to make up for the shortened season.
Port Angeles did come back and win the final two games, 25-20 and 25-12.
“We played great defensively and had excellent serving, especially that first game,” said Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman. “We came out serving really tough, and they couldn’t recover until the second game. There were a lot of long rallies. It was a good defensive game on both sides.”
In addition to her serving, Gale played libero and contributed 30 digs. Setter Kalli Wiker had 35 assists and served 15-for-16 with 14 digs, while Jordan Hegtvedt and Lindsay Swanson each had 14 digs.
Kendall Hastings had 19 kills for the Wolves, including 16 in the first three games. She added four stuff blocks. Jolene Vaara had seven kills.
For Port Angeles, Jaida Wood, Sam Robbins and Zoe Smithson all had nine points, while Lily Halberg had seven points.
The Roughriders’ junior varsity won 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, and the C team won 26-24, 25-23, 25-14.
Port Angeles (2-4) hosts East Jefferson at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Sequim (6-2) hosts Klahowya at 6:15 p.m. today.
Forks 4, Northwest Christian 1
FORKS — Forks celebrated seniors Kray Horton, Colbie Rancourt and Kesia Rowley with a four-game senior night win over Northwest Christian.
The Spartans also won an extra fifth set.
Horton set her teammates up with 24 assists, served 100 percent with four aces and added two kills.
Rancourt also served 100 percent with five aces and a kill.
Rowley totaled five kills, four assists, three aces and a block.
Kyra Neel led the way with 15 kills, eight aces, three assists and two blocks.
Kadie Wood posted seven kills and five aces and freshman Kaidence Rigby was a force on both sides of the floor with seven blocks, five kills and four aces.
“I felt last night the team really stepped up and came together,” Horton said. “Our passing improved after corrections were applied, we were able to run some cool sets and had some pretty awesome kills. The team definitely lit up when Kaidence had solid net play and blocked a hit, [Northwest Christian] returned an overpass she hit back at them, they sent another and she finished with the kill. Best senior night I could have ever asked for.”
Forks (3-2) visits Ocosta today.
Olympic 3, East Jefferson 2
CHIMACUM — East Jefferson took Olympic to five sets before falling in a back-and-forth marathon 3-2 (25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13).
Akira Anderson led East Jefferson with six kills and three aces. Sophie Patterson had four kills, three blocks and two aces, while Katie Ballard had four kills and two blocks. Alyssa Vandenberg had three kills and three aces.
“Alyssa Vandenberg really stood out in the varsity game against Olympic. She played four of the sets and really was a great asset to the team picking up many great digs and serves as well as 3 kills, 3 aces and many block assists,” said coach Emily Zenz.
In the junior varsity, Olympic won 2-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-22) in another close match. The East Jefferson C team won 2-1 (25-14, 25-27, 25-15).
