PREP VOLLEYBALL: Sequim’s Vaara, Stovall make first team all-Olympic League

POULSBO — Sequim middle hitters Jolene Vaara and Arianna Stovall made all-Olympic League first-team volleyball last week.

Making the second team was Port Angeles setter Josephine Edgington.

Vaara is an outstanding all-around athlete who was also the league MVP in basketball and finished second at the state 2A track meet in both the high jump and the long jump. She often led the Wolves in kills this season with her year topped off with a 20-kill game at the end of October. In that game, she also served 19-for-20. Vaara and Stovall led the Wolves to an 11-7 record, a bidistrict tournament berth. The Wolves also went 10-4 in league and finished third in the Olympic League.

Winning each team’s sportsmanship award were Port Angeles’ Lily Thomas and Sequim’s Brianna Palenik.

The co-MVPs of the league were outside hitter Holley McFadden of Bainbridge and middle hitter Ireland Burdick of North Kitsap. Libero Emma Pendleton of Bainbridge was named the defensive player of the year.
