PREP VOLLEYBALL: Sequim starts season with sweep

FEDERAL WAY — Sequim’s volleyball season opened successfully with a three-set sweep of the Class 4A Thomas Jefferson Raiders.

The Wolves (1-0) took Monday’s nonleague match by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-16.

“We had a different lineup for each game and were able to play all the kids on the varsity roster, minus McKenzie Bentz who was out with a sprained ankle,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.

Bentz is set to return this week from the injury.

Strong on serve

Sydney Balkan led the Wolves at the service line, connecting on 12 of 12 attempts and adding five assists.

“She actually served 10 serves in a row over and we scored nine points in a row in the third game,” Webber Heilman said.

Emma LeBlanc also served well for Sequim, with 14 of 15 serves, eight perfect service passes eight digs.

LeBlanc produced nine straight successful serves in the first game for Sequim.
