PREP VOLLEYBALL: Sequim can’t handle Kingston in 3-1 loss; League-leading North Kitsap sweeps Port Angeles

SEQUIM — Sequim couldn’t break Kingston’s service game as the Buccaneers rallied after dropping the first set to cage the Wolves 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18.

“We started slow but managed to win the first game,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber-Heilman said of Tuesday’s game.

“Kingston then basically served us off the court.

“We dropped the first five points in the second game. In the third, with their first two serves they got ahead by nine points.”

The Wolves took an 8-4 advantage in the fourth game before the Buccaneers rattled off a five-point run to push ahead 9-8 on their way to clinching the match.

“We also needed more effective blocking,” Webber-Heilman said.

Webber-Heilman praised the play of Megan Breckenridge.

“Megan was our offensive and defensive leader with eight kills, 15 digs and seven perfect serve receive passes,” Webber-Heilman said.

“McKenzie [Bentz] also was working hard on defense with 11 digs.”

Jadyn Overby totaled four kills with just one hitting error.

Webber-Heilman pointed out that Lillian Oden and Ella Christiansen were perfect on serve, each going 11 for 11 with two aces.

Maddie Potts chipped in with seve digs and three perfect passes for the Wolves.

Sequim (5-3, 6-4) is tied for second in the Olympic League with Bremerton.

The Wolves visit Port Angeles today.

POULSBO — The Roughriders fell on the road 25-10, 25-12, 25-8 to the Olympic League-leading Vikings.

“The girls had some long rallies and played hard to the end,” Port Angeles coach Christine Halberg said.

“North Kitsap is a tough team and played tougher this time than when we played them last time.

“We improved and that’s what matters. Our passing improved significantly as well our overall ball control.”

Kiana Robideau led the Riders on offense with five kills and had two digs defensively.

“Emily [Johnson] played a great game defensively with 14 digs,” Halberg said.

“She had one ace and one block.”

Brennan Gray added 10 digs and an ace, Devin Edwards tallied a kill and a block and Aeverie Politika had two kills.

Port Angeles (2-6, 2-7) hosts rival Sequim today.
