SEQUIM — The Sequim volleyball team racked up 20 aces in easily handling Olympic 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-15) to go to 2-1 in the Olympic 2A League.
The win puts Sequim in a second-place tie with Port Angeles, Bainbridge and Kingston, a game behind first-place North Kitsap.
“We finally reached our goal of 90 percent [66-for-73, 90.4 percent] serving as a team. Twenty aces is a season high for our team,” said coach Jennie Webber-Heilman.
Kendall Hastings led the Wolves with seven kills, six aces and four digs. She also served 100 percent (16-for-16). Jolene Vaara had four aces, four kills and six assists. Jordan Kidd had three aces and six digs, while Sydney Hegtvedt had two aces, three assists and three digs.
“Jolene and Sydney Clark have also improved getting hittable sets to our setters,” Webber-Heilman said.
Libero Mia Coudriet had 10 digs, leading the Wolves.
“Mia made some great defensive plays,” Webber-Heilman said. Sammie Bacon also served 7-for-7 with two aces and Arianna Stovall had two kills and two stuff blocks.
The Wolves (2-1 in league, 2-2 overall) get a big test tonight going up against volleyball powerhouse North Kitsap (3-0, 4-1) on the road.
Port Angeles 3, North Mason 2
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat North Mason 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10) in a 206-point marathon match, putting the Roughriders in a four-way tie for second in the Olympic 2A League.
Josephine Edgington led the team with 35 assists, nine aces and 10 digs. Lily Halberg had 11 kills, 10 digs and four aces, while Jasmine Messinger had 10 kills.
Jayde Wold led the team with 22 digs, adding a pair of aces. Alexis Perry added seven kills, two aces and four digs, while Ava Hairell had eight kills and five digs. Hairell served 90 percent and Perry and Wold each served 89.5 percent, while Edgington was a workhorse serving, going 25-for-30 (83.3 percent).
Port Angeles (2-1, 2-2) next plays at Olympic (1-2, 1-5) tonight.
Forks 3, Ilwaco 0
FORKS — The Forks volleyball team easily swept Ilwaco 3-0 (25-6, 25-6, 25-11) to improve to 3-0 in Pacific 2B League play.
The Spartans got 26 points on aces. Kyra Neel had four kills and four aces, while Chloe Gaydeski-St. John had six aces and two assists. Erika Williams had four assists and five aces, while Eladia Hernandez-Stansbury had five aces and Kadie Wood four aces and two kills.
Forks (3-0, 4-1) will likely get a better challenge tonight, hosting an unbeaten Raymond (3-0, 5-0) squad at 7:15 p.m. today with first place in the league on the line.
