PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles volleyball team rallied after a slow start, but weren’t able to overcome Bremerton in a 3-1 loss.
The Roughriders are still looking for their first Olympic League 2A win of the year after falling Tuesday 25-18, 25-12, 15-25, 25-22.
“[We] lost a very close fourth set that could have turned things around for [us] in game five,” coach Christine Halberg said. “We made some big changes in rotation the day before and it took some time getting used to it but they started to gel and get in a rhythm. We are continuing to improve which is success.”
Devin Edwards led the way for Port Angeles with nine kills, while Aeverie Politika had six kills and seven aces.
Setter Natalie Steinman had 24 assists and 12 digs. Brennan Gray added 13 digs and Hannah Reetz had 10 digs. Michelle Alvarez served five aces and Nacia Bohman posted four aces.
The Riders (0-3, 0-4) play at 6:15 p.m. at home today against Olympic.
Sequim 3, North Mason 0
SEQUIM — The Sequim girls went up against a Bulldogs team that likes to slow down the action and came out with a 3-0 win.
The overall score doesn’t show that Tuesday’s match was fairly close. The Wolves won those games by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-17.
“They played really slow and we fell into their method,” said Sequim coach Jennie Webber-Heilman.
Tayler Breckinridge led the Wolves with nine kills and 13 digs. Webber-Heilman said Brittney Gale did a bit of everything for the Wolves. Gale served 14 for 16 with three aces, 13 assists, 10 digs and four kills.
Annika Christiansen served 10 for 10 with four kills, Kalli Wiker had 10 assists and Lindsey Leader had six kills and six blocks. Arlene Law also had six kills.
Sequim (2-1, 3-1) travels to Poulsbo today to play league-leading undefeated North Kitsap. Webber-Heilman said it will be a very tough match against a senior-heavy team (the Wolves don’t have a single senior).
Quilcene 3, Rainier Christian 0
RENTON — The Rangers remained undefeated with a Sea-Tac 1B League win 3-0 over Rainier Christian.
The match started off close in the first set, but Quilcene won Tuesday going away by the score of 26-24, 25-13, 25-15.
“[Rainier Christian] had an excellent serve receive and made few errors in their defense. [We] stayed strong at the net and coverage improved,” said coach Joni Crowell.
Four different Rangers had kills as setter Alannah Carron moved the ball around, according to Crowell.
“A few rallies had Alannah hitting several of her options during play, moving from the Outside, to the right side and the middle back. Having so many hitting options available allows for our offense to continue to develop strength,” Crowell said.
The Rangers served excellently, going 67 for 74 (90.5 percent) from the back line.
Emily Hitt led the way for the Rangers, with 10 kills, 16 digs, two blocks and three aces on 17 for 18 serving. Outside hitter Katie Love had eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks.
Alannah Carron had 12 digs and 14 assists while Abbygael Weller had 12 digs and served 10 for 10. Pearl Munn had nine digs and served 12 for 13. Madison Coffey led the team with five blocks.
The Rangers (3-0, 4-0) are tied with Puget Sound Adventist for first place in the Sea-Tac 1B League. They play another road match against Seattle Lutheran tonight and finally get their first home match at 6 p.m. Friday against Clallam Bay.
