PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles volleyball team beat North Mason 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-23) to improve to .500 in Olympic League play.
“The court ran smoothly last night, and the girls are really coming together as one,” said coach Alyssa Wetzler. “We have been working hard in practice and it is so fun to see it come together when we compete. I am so proud of the growth of this team, whether it’s on the court or off. This is an amazing group of young ladies I’m a very proud coach.”
The Roughriders were led by sophomore Juno Rognlien and junior Jordin Dunaway. Rognlien served 20-for-20 with eight aces, six kills and seven digs, while Dunaway had eight kills, five digs and a solo block.
Setter Kayleigh Sargent had seven assists and served 6-for-7 with two aces. Hailey Castor had six assists and a pair of aces, while Kenzie Moses had seven kills and five digs.
Libero Chloe Clark was 9-for-10 serving with 22 digs, while Hannah Hairell served 16-for-17 with two aces. London Bourland had six kills.
Port Angeles (3-3 in Olympic League, 3-4 overall) hosted North Kitsap (5-1, 5-3) on Wednesday night after press deadline in a makeup game and will next play at league-leader Bainbridge (9-0, 10-0) tonight.
Sequim 3, Kingston 0
SEQUIM — The Sequim volleyball team kept pace with Olympic League leaders Bainbridge and North Kitsap with an efficient 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) win over Kingston.
The victory put the Wolves at 6-2 in league, one game behind North Kitsap and two behind Bainbridge.
Kassi Montero led the team serving 22-for-24 with six aces. She also had a nine-point scoring streak and made 12 digs.
“They hit at her side a lot,” coach Jennie Webber-Heilman said.
Rose Gibson also had a solid match serving, going 16-for-16 with three aces with a seven-point run. She added five kills, three blocks and nine kills.
“She did a little bit of everything,” Webber-Heilman said.
“We didn’t quite meet our goal of 90 percent serving. We served 88 percent, but we did have 15 aces. So we served pretty well,” she said.
Lexie Greenleaf added seven assists, libero Tiffany Lam had 11 digs and Sydney Clark had five kills and a block.
Sequim (7-3 overall) next travels to Belfair to play North Mason (1-6, 2-8) today.
Forks 3, Ilwaco 1
FORKS — The Forks volleyball team beat Ilwaco 3-1 (25-10, 15-25, 25-21, 25-16).
“Last night I thought we played pretty well,” said captain Chloe Gaydeski. “Even though we did lose the one set, I love how resilient this team is and how we can bounce back after losing.”
Forks (2-0, 5-3) will play at North Beach (2-1, 7-3) tonight.
“We have improved a lot as a team since the beginning of the season and it’s really fun to witness,” Gaydeski said. “I think we still have some things to work out, but I really think we will be successful.”
East Jefferson 3, Seattle Christian 0
CHIMACUM — The East Jefferson volleyball team got back on the winning track with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-13) victory over Seattle Christian.
Monday’s victory improved the Rivals’ record to 8-2 after two straight losses.
East Jefferson’s Penina Vailolo had 29 hits, 13 kills, six blocks and two aces. Dylin Shockley had 20 hits and 17 digs.
Stephy Contreras had four aces and 15 digs, while Gracee Liske had four aces. Kaydence Plotner had three kills and Emily Liske two kills.
East Jefferson (1-0, 8-2) played at Cascade Christian on Wednesday after press deadline and will next host Charles Wright (1-2, 3-7) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Chimacum.
