PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles and Sequim will play for second place in the Olympic League volleyball standings at Sequim High School on Monday.
The matchup between the rivals was set up by the Roughriders’ four-set loss to undefeated North Kitsap and the Wolves’ three-set sweep of Bremerton.
It will be Port Angeles second consecutive high-stakes showdown.
The Riders (6-1, 9-4) went toe-to-toe with the Vikings (7-0, 13-0) on Thursday before falling in four sets 26-24, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19.
“Statistically we played the best we have played this season,” Port Angeles coach Christine Halberg said following Thursday’s match.
“We were consistent and kept our unforced errors at bay. Our hitting and serving percentage were higher than normal.”
Maddy Hinrichs has 19 kills and 14 digs for the Riders, and Bailee Jones had nine kills and four digs, while serving 10 for 10 with 10 points.
“Madison and Bailee did a good job of running a quick offense and pushing through North Kitsap’s tough block,” Halberg said.
“North Kitsap hit hard and they were tough to defend consistently.
“There were many long rallies and great volleyball plays.
“Both teams were very scrappy on defense, where many balls that should have gone down for the kill were brought back into play.
“I’m very proud of my girls and how they stayed together throughout the match.”

BREMERTON — The Wolves served their way past the Knights in three sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-8.
Alyse Armstrong served 13 for 13 with two aces, including eight straight points in the first game.
Hannah Hudson was 15/15 serving with four aces. She also had a nice run in the opening set with seven straight points.
Caitlin Stofferahn’s aggressive serving resulted in a team-high five aces in nine serves.
Stofferahn led the Wolves with eight kills, while Armstrong finished with seven.
Hudson contributed 12 perfect passes and 15 digs, both tops for Sequim.
Emily Wallner led the Wolves with 16 assists, followed by Armstrong with nine.
Sequim (6-1, 9-4) lost to Port Angeles in a nonleague match that went five sets last month.
Port Townsend 3, Olympic 2
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins beat the Trojans in five sets to secure a postseason berth.
Port Townsend will host a loser-out pigtail game for the chance to play in the 1A district tournament.
“[Thursday’s] game was a must-win for us and one I knew we could win if everyone was on their ‘A’ game,” Redskins coach Nettie Hawkins said.
“It was defiantly a fight, but they never gave up, stayed positive and worked together to pull out a very important win.”
Port Townsend concludes its regular season Wednesday at Chimacum.
