PREP VOLLEYBALL: Forks takes Elma in three sets

Forks Spartans

ELMA — The Forks girls volleyball team swept Elma 3-0, though it was a tightly contested match with scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.

Monday’s victory was Forks’ first win of the year.

“I’m really proud of how the girls played last night,” said coach Jennifer LeDuke. “Even though Avery Dilley, our starting middle [hitter], was out with an injury, everyone stepped up. We had to move some players into new positions, and two freshmen [Leighton Foster and Lyric Neel] got to play varsity for the first time this season.

“They handled it really well and didn’t let the changes slow them down. The freshman setters did a great job, and the whole team stayed focused and worked hard. As a coach, it was great to see how coachable and adaptable they were. They kept a positive attitude and got the job done with a win in three,” LeDuke said.

Karee Neel had four kills and four aces, while Fyn Peters had two kills and eight assists. Bailey Johnson had five kills and two aces, while Chloe Gaydeski had three kills and six aces. Foster finished with five assists and three aces, while Kaylin Crowder had three kills.

Forks (1-1) next hosts Coupeville at 4 p.m. today.

In other volleyball action from Monday night, Crosspoint Christian beat Quilcene 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 26-24) in another tightly contested match
