FORKS — The Forks Spartans volleyball team is one win away from qualifying for the state 2B tournament, while Sequim goes into the 2A District 3 tournament as a No. 2 seed.
Forks beat Toutle Lake 3-1 (25-16, 17-25, 25-12, 25-19) on Saturday in a district second-round match. As the Pacific 2B League champion, Forks had a round-one bye.
Erika Williams led the team with 10 kills and nine serving aces.
“She had an amazing match, really,” said coach Jenn LeDuke.
Eladia Hernandez-Stansbury added six aces and Avery Dilley seven kills.
Chloe Gaydeski added four aces and four kills. Keana Rowley had four kills and Kara Neel three kills and two blocks.
The Spartans (13-3 overall, No. 9 in Ratings Percentage Index) next play Mossyrock (11-5, No. 12) in Raymond at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Win and they qualify for state as they would head to the District 4 championship match. Lose and they can still qualify for state by winning the third-fourth-place game.
“We just have to win one match to qualify for state,” LeDuke said.
Win or lose, the Spartans will play either Rainier (15-3, No. 5) or No. 1-ranked Adna (16-0) on Saturday.
Sequim volleyball
BAINBRIDGE — The Sequim volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-12) to Bainbridge in the Olympic League tournament Saturday, meaning the Wolves will be going to the District 3 tournament as a No. 2 seed out of the Olympic League.
Coach Jennie Webber-Heilman said the team served 94 percent, which is above her goal of 90 percent, but Bainbridge hit 13 aces against the Wolves.
“I expect them to win district,” she said. Bainbridge is 16-2 overall.
Rose Gibson led the team, serving 10-for-10 with two acres, while Arianna Stovall served 9-for-9 with an ace and seven kills.
Sydney Clark served 6-for-6 with three kills. Kenzi Berglund served 8-for-9 with 14 assists and five digs, while Tiffany Lam had 10 digs and Kassi Montero had seven.
The district tournament will begin Friday. Webber-Heilman said she doesn’t know who Sequim will be playing yet because the South Puget Sound League was still playing league matches Monday.
Sequim (11-5) gets a first-round bye at district and will begin at either 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. Friday. If the Wolves win that first match, they will have qualified for the state 2A tournament, Webber-Heilman said. If they lose, they would have to win two more matches as four of the 12 teams at district move on to state. The last time Sequim made it to state was 2021 in Stovall’s freshman year.
1B volleyball
Quilcene, Crescent and Neah Bay all played Monday in the 1B Tri-District volleyball tournament. Quilcene, a No. 11 seed, played Providence Classical Christian in Neah Bay and Crescent, a No. 10 seed, played Shoreline Christian in Everett.
Neah Bay, a No. 3 seed, played the winner of Quilcene and Providence Classicial Christian. The next round of the tournament is Thursday at Northwest Christian in Puyallup.
