PREP VOLLEYBALL: Forks defends home court in sweep of Tenino

FORKS — Forks beat Tenino 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-10) to improve its record to 9-3 on the season and 3-2 in league.

Coach Jenn LeDuke said that with the 3-0 win, she was able to get some of the team’s subs and swing players into the match.

The Spartans play at Hoquiam (0-5, 2-10) tonight and then have a huge match at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Montesano (4-1 in league) with a chance to move into a tie in second place in the Evergreen 1A League.

North Kitsap 3, Port Angeles 0

POULSBO — The Roughriders got swept 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-13) by league-leading North Kitsap, but they remain tied for third place in the Olympic League 2A Division with their final two matches of the season at home.

The Riders served 92 percent against the Vikings. McKenzie Musalek and Kennedy Bruch led the Riders with four kills each. Freshman Lily Halberg had 20 digs and Camille Stensgard had nine assists.

Coach Jennifer Reynolds said the Roughriders ball control was on point.

“We will continue to work on our offensive and defensive systems in order to take our game to the next level and are looking forward to facing off against North Kitsap next year,” she said.

Port Angeles just finished up a brutal three-game road stretch against Klahowya, North Mason and North Kitsap, who have a combined won-loss record of 33-4.

Things should be easier in Port Angeles’ last two matches. If the Riders can win these final two matches against Bremerton (0-11 in league) tonight and Olympic (3-6) on Monday, they will end the season with a winning record and a postseason berth a year after winning just one match.

Tonight’s match will be a “Pink Up” game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. There will also be a bake sale at the gym with proceeds going to Operation Uplift, a cancer support group for the Olympic Peninsula. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6:15 p.m.

Monday will be senior night with seniors Musalek and Marie Burns honored in the Riders’ final home match.
