CHIMACUM — Chimacum rebounded from a first set loss to push past Crescent 24-26, 25-11, 25-12, 25-10.
“It was a nonleague game so we were experimenting a little bit and having a little fun putting some people in some different spots,” Cowboys coach Samantha Archambault said of Monday’s match.
“We went back into our regular system for the rest of the match.”
Archambault was pleased with what she saw from her team in the remainder of the match.
“I was happy with it,” Archambault said.
“The girls were being a little more creative [with shot placement], pushing and tipping and hitting the corners in the back,” Archambault said.
“My senior Kiersten Snyder was hitting well and Alyssa Hamilton kind of killed them on the serve.”
Snyder recorded seven kills in the game.
Archambault said she thought Hamilton served 12 consecutive points for the Cowboys in the final set.
“She had quite a few good service runs in all four of the games,” Archambault said.
“It was a serving match. The ref didn’t call a whole lot in terms of doubling or lifting [violations] and they [Crescent] struggled a bit on serve.”
Hamilton finished with nine aces and six digs.
Sophia Thurston recorded six aces and Thurston and Morgen Hartnett each recorded blocks.
Loggers coach Alex Baker thought his team lacked the effort necessary to get the win.
“Unfortunately for us, we came out flat in game two and struggled to find a way to give 100 percent effort from everyone,” Baker said.
“Dealing with injuries and a short lineup, we couldn’t find our way after that.”
He praised the play of senior outside hitter Hannah Mitts.
“She played great defense,” Baker said.
It’s great to see success from a senior who has been working hard for so many years.”
Mitts recorded four aces, three kills and a tip for Crescent.
Baker also liked the performance of Ashara Dodson.
“She stepped in and served a great role as an outside hitter and had one of the best attacks I’ve seen all year,” Baker said.
She served 6 of 8 with an ace and a dig.
“Her stats aren’t showing it but she had some great kills in there,” Loggers assistant Nora Williams said.
Lauren Hartley was 11 of 14 on serve with two aces, four digs, four blocks, three kills and an assist for Crescent.
Shannon Williams added five kills and four blocks for the Loggers.
Crescent (1-2, 2-9) visits Port Townsend on Wednesday and then travels to Clallam Bay for an important league match on Thursday.
“If we win that match we will play in a pigtail match for a Tri-District tournament berth against a team from District 1 or 2,” Baker said.
“Any way we go it will be an I-5 corridor school that will give us a challenge to get into the district tournament and right now my kids aren’t ready.
“We have time to fix it but they have to step it up now. We have talent and time but do they want it?
Chimacum (1-1, 3-6)) will host Coupeville on Thursday, a rematch of a 3-1 Cowboys loss last week.
“We were down a few girls due to injury for that match so we are looking forward to having a full team for that game,” Archambault said.
