JOYCE — The Neah Bay boys and girls won the North Olympic 1B Subdistrict Meet, dominating all five relay races. The Red Devils boys won nine out of 16 events while the girls won 7 out of 16 events.
The Neah Bay boys tallied 86 points, while Clallam Bay had 41 and Crescent 31. For the girls, Neah Bay had 66 points to Clallam Bay’s 57 and Crescent’s 16.
Despite Neah Bay’s team win, Clallam Bay seniors Miriam Wonderly and Hannah Olson had a fantastic final league meet. Wonderly won four individual events — the 100-meter run in 13.82 seconds (beating Olson by 0.01 of a second), the 200-meter run (28.41 seconds), the 300-meter hurdles (54.78 seconds, a personal record) and the high jump (4 feet, 2 inches).
Olson won the shot put (31-8, a personal record), the javelin (95-2) and the long jump (15-2, a personal record).
For the boys, Neah Bay’s Isaac Jay Brunk had an excellent meet. Brunk won the javelin with a distance of 127-7, the long jump with a distance 19-2 and the triple jump of 40-7. Brunk was also part of Neah Bay’s first-place 4×400 relay team.
The Neah Bay boys won both of their relays. The 4×100 (Keith Johnson, Toby Croy, Robert Richardson, Josey Tyree) took first with a time of 46.69, while the 4×400 (Brunk, Croy, Richardson Johnson) won with a time of 3:50.56.
The Neah Bay girls won all their relays. The 4×100 (Grace Buzzell, Grace Wilson, Ruth Greene, and Navaja Johnson) won with a time of 1:00.50, the 4×200 (Greene, Wilson, Buzzell and Shilaily Woodruff) took first in 2:04.41 and the 4×400 (Buzzell, Greene, Wilson and Woodruff) won in 4:54.96.
Two other multiple event winners were Malachi Treadway of Crescent and Ryan Strid of Clallam Bay.
Strid won the 100-meter run in 11.73 seconds and the 200-meter run in 24.04 seconds. Malachi won the 110-meter hurdles in 18.57 and the 200-meter hurdles in 48.24.

The 1B Tri-District Championships will be held Wednesday at St. Martin’s College in Lacey.
Forks boys, girls fourth
MONTESANO — The Spartans boys and girls swept the long-distance events at the Class 1A Evergreen League meet at Montesano High School on Thursday.
The top four in laned events (hurdles, sprints, relays) and top six in all other events advanced to the 1A Southwest District 4 meet at Woodland High School on Thursday.
Wesley Camacho was the lone double-event winner for Forks, claiming the 1,600-meter run with a time of four minutes, 57.98 seconds and the 3,200 in 11:27.15.
He beat teammate Matthew Larson in both events with Larson setting season-bests in the 1,600 (second in 5:11.81) and 3,200 (11:47.36).
“Both did really well,” Gale said of the pair.
Luke Dahlgren won the discus with a distance of 147 feet and was fourth in the shot put with a personal-record 45-10.25.
Skyler Steffen moved on to the district meet with a third in the discus (131-08) and a fifth-place finish in the javelin (114-09).
Freshman Hayden Queen also advanced by placing third in the high jump, clearing 5-06 and freshman Ashton Doyle set a personal record in the triple jump (36-09) to finish sixth and qualify for the district meet.
Spartans coach Pam Gale was proud of Doyle for his showing.
“It’s difficult for a freshman boy to compete against juniors and seniors, so him qualifying for districts is a big win,” Gale said.
Both Forks teams finished fourth overall at the league meet with scores of 70 (boys) and 71. Montesano claimed the boys team title with 210 points and Elma won the girls meet with 198 points.
On the girls side, senior Melisa Galindo won the girls 1,600 (6:28.77) and teammate Karen Ensastegui-Salazar triumphed in the 3,200 with a time of 14:04.42. She also finished second in the 1,600 (6:28.77) and Forks freshman Jeidi Ahilon set a personal record (7:27.26) in third.
Galindo is on to the district meet in the 800 after setting a personal record while placing third (2:46.39).
Freshman Candida Rose-Sandoval ended up third in the 300 hurdles in 55.09 and will compete at districts.
Rose-Sandoval, Macy Luong, Cassia Helvey and Myra Luong qualified with a fourth-place finish in the 4×100 relay (59.50) and the 4×400 team of Rose-Sandoval, Galindo, Ensastegui-Salazar and Syliva Torres placed fourth (4:59.33).
The top three in all events at the district meet will advance to state in Cheney over Memorial Day weekend.
