PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Port Townsend relay team sets school record; Bingham wins four events for Sequim

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend boys won eight events at their home track and field meet, narrowly beating out North Mason and Coupeville for the team victory.

The Redhawk boys’ relay teams dominated Friday, winning both the 4×100 and the 4×200. That 4×200 race was in school-record time as Kyle Blankenship, Gerry Coker, Berkley Hill and Seren Dances won by nearly eight seconds (1 minutes, 33.49 seconds).

Blankenship, Coker, Hill and Isaiah Mason teamed up for the 4×100 win with a time of 45.13. That is a top 10 time among 1A schools statewide so far this season.

For the girls, the Redhawks’ Sira Wines won both the javelin and the high jump. Her javelin throw of 98 feet, 3 inches was nearly 14 feet better than second place. Her winning high jump was 4-8.

Port Townsend’s Aubrey Botkin also won multiple individual events, the 100-meter run in 13.35 seconds and the triple jump at 32-10 1/2.

The Port Townsend boys ended up with 57 points. North Mason had 55 and Coupeville 54. Coupeville won the girls’ meet with 96 team points, following by Port Townsend with 40 and North Mason with 26.

Neah Bay competed in several events, but its finishes did not count toward team scores.

• 100-Meter Run — Dances, PT, 11.44.

• 400-Meter Run — Luke Absher, PT, 57.68.

• 1,600-Meter Run — Nathan Cantrell, PT, 5:08.77.

• 3,200-Meter Run — Ian Linn-Glasgow, PT, 13:08.37.

• Discus — Erik Pokorny, PT, 129-9.

• High Jump — Hill, PT, 5-4.

Girls

• Discus — Kayla Winck, NB, 85-10.

Sequim at Klahowya

SILVERDALE — Sequim’s Morgan and Murray Bingham combined for six individual and relay wins and the Wolves’ boys and girls teams won five out of six team duals in a meet with Olympic, Kingston and Klahowya.

The Sequim boys outpointed Olympic 95-33, Klahowya 82-52 and Kingston 80-59 in Thursday’s meet at Klahowya. For the girls, Sequim beat Klahowya 86-60 and cruised past Kingston 109-37. Olympic nipped the Sequim girls 79-65.

Morgan Bingham had a spectacular day. She ran a total of 6,000 meters (nearly four miles) and won three individual events — the 800-meter run (2:34.97), the 1,600-meter run (5:41.42) and the 3,200-meter run (11:50.46).

For good measure, Bingham also helped the Sequim girls’ 4×400 relay team (Kristinna Barnet, Emma Beeson, Daisy Ryan, Bingham — 4:32.32) come in first.

Morgan’s brother Murray won the 800-meter run (2:03.47) and the 1,600-meter run (4:46.09).

Riley Martin and Curtis Gorr were Sequim’s other multiple-event winners. Martin came in first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.27) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.75). Meanwhile, Gorr won the 100-meter run (11.43) and the 200-meter run (23.23).

• Javelin — Riley Cowan, 146-5.

• High Jump — Michael Larsen, 5-6.

• Pole Vault — Liam Byrne, 10-6.

Girls

• Shot Put — Lindsey Leader, 29-10.

• Discus — Clarissa Finman, 95-7.

• Javelin — Kaitlyn Viada, 82-8.

• Pole Vault — Elizabeth Sweet, 8-0.

Port Angeles at Bremerton

BREMERTON — The Port Angeles track girls picked up five first-place finishes and came in second to North Kitsap at a meet in Bremerton.

The Roughriders did very well in the distance events Thursday, winning the girls’ 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs — and picking up a second in the 400 meters, a second in the 3,200 meters and a third and a fourth in the 1,600 meters.

Gracie Long won two more events to add to her season total. She won the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:27.95 and the high jump at 5-0. She now has 18 first-place finishes on the season as an individual and relay team member. For good measure, she finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:05.86.

Kynzie Deleon won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.40 and the Riders’ Lael Butler won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:40.61. Maddie Dougherty came in second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:57.41.

Chris Sevilla of Chimacum won the javelin with a throw of 154-7, more than 16 feet beyond the second-place throw.

Devin Edwards of Port Angeles had her personal-best shot put of 33-4, good for second place. Delaney Wenzl also came in second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.14, while the Riders’ 4×100 team of Alexis Cobb, Kia Noel, Michelle Alverez and Mckenzie Musalek came in second with a time of 54.35.

The Port Angeles girls finished with 75 team points to North Kitsap’s 119.5. Bremerton had 71 and Chimacum 10.5.

For the boys, North Kitsap had 172.5 points to Bremerton’s 54.5, Port Angeles’ 20 and Chimacum’s 11.

Forks at Evergreen 1A Meet

FORKS — Cole Baysinger won four events for the second time this season in an Evergreen 1A meet.

Baysinger won the shot put (42-6), the discus (122- 2 1/2), the high jump (5-10) and the triple jump (39-3) at Thursday’s meet.

The Spartans’ Azalea Ramos also won two events, the shot put (26-0) and the javelin (96-3).

Other Forks winners were:

• 200-Meter Run — Peyton Rondeau, 25.34.

• 1,600-Meter Run — Matthew Larson, 5:22.28.

Girls

• 400-Meter Run — Madison Carlson, 1:06.16.

• 3,200-Meter Run — Enid Ensastegui, 13:02.72.
