PREP TENNIS: Sequim’s Dietzman, Wiker win Olympic League 2A doubles’ title again

POULSBO — Defending league and district champions Jessica Dietzman and Kalli Wiker won the Olympic League 2A doubles’ tennis championship this weekend without losing a set.

Dietzman and Wiker, who finished second in the state last year, won four straight matches en route to the Olympic League championship. They won their first match 6-2, 6-0 over Kailey Green and Rachel Youngman of North Mason; 6-1, 6-2 over Karli Taylor and Alexis Valenzuela of Olympic; 6-1, 6-2 over the North Kitsap team of Grace Hansen and Jamison Jacobson in the semifinals and 6-2, 6-3 over the Olympic duo of Sydney Troy and Emry Bohlman in the championship match.

Port Angeles’s Summer Olsen finished fourth in singles’ play to qualify for district. She beat Eden Johnson of Sequim 6-2, 6-1, beat Montana Thoroughman of Kingston 6-2, 6-1, then lost 6-2, 6-1 in the singles’ semifinals to eventual champion Marissa Nemeth of Olympic.

Olsen bounced back in the consolation bracket to beat Ryleigh Barrett of Olympic 6-4, 6-4 to qualify for the district tournament. She lost in the third-place match 6-4, 6-2 against Makinna Skjonsby of North Mason.

The Sequim tandem of McKenna Hastings and Ashley Rosales finished fifth and will be a first alternate to district. Hastings and Rosales won two matches, the first 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 over Alani Pujimula and Kiarra Richards of Olympic and 6-2, 6-1 over Kaylen Riley and DJ Cherrey of Olympic. They were beaten 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 by Olympic’s Troy and Bohlman in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket, they were beaten by Geneva Newell and Noelani Barreith of North Kitsap 6-1, 6-2 to finish fifth.

Port Angeles’ Kailey Droz also won a match, beating Hailey Connell of North Mason 6-2, 6-1.

Sequim’s Isabelle Hugoniot won a pair of matches, while Melissa Porter and Johnson also won singles’ matches. The Sequim doubles team of Arlene Law and Amanda He also won a couple of matches.

The West Central District III 2A Girls Tennis Tournament begins Friday at the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center in Bremerton.
