PREP TENNIS: Sequim duo of Wiker and Hughes qualify for state tournament

SEQUIM — The Sequim boys’ tennis duo of Blake Wiker and Thomas Hughes won four out of five matches at the West Central District 3 2A tournament last weekend in Poulsbo, qualifying for the state 2A Tennis Tournament in May in Yakima.

Wiker and Hughes beat a Washington duo 6-3, 6-2, lost to a Fife team 7-5, 6-1, 6-4, beat a Renton team 6-2, 6-2, another Washington squad 6-4, 6-2 and a Steilacoom duo 6-3, 6-2. The tandem won nine out of 11 sets in the tournament.

Wiker is an excellent golfer who qualified for the state golf tournament last year. He could conceivably play in both the state 2A golf tournament and the state 2A tennis tournament this May. The golf tournament is May 22-23 and the tennis tournament is May 25-26 in Seattle
