PREP TENNIS: Riders, Wolves both sweep in Olympic League

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys tennis team remained solidly in second place in the Olympic League with a 7-0 thrashing over Olympic on Monday.

The Roughriders didn’t even lose a set on the day as they pushed their record to an outstanding 11-2. Singles’ players Reefer Gelder, Caleb Flodstrom and Landon Seibel all won in straight sets.

The doubles’ teams of Milo Whitman/Wyatt Hall, Seth Woods/Dru Clark, Damon Gundersen/Michael Soule and Tanner Price/Kam Noard all won in straight sets.

It was the sixth 7-0 sweep for the boys this season.

“We got off to a good start and kept the pressure on them, ” said coach Brian Gundersen.

Port Angeles was scheduled to play Bremerton on Tuesday, but was rained out. The Riders are next scheduled to play at North Mason (2-8) today. Port Angeles likely needs to win out to lock up second place in the Olympic League.

Sequim 7, North Mason 0

SEQUIM — The Wolves won 7-0 over North Mason for their fifth sweep of the season.

Ryan Tolberd and Connor Bear both won their singles’ matches easily in straight sets. Dallin Despain had to battle from behind for his victory, however, getting past North Mason’s Connor McColm 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles’ play, every Sequim team won in straight sets. Sam Frymyer/Brenton Barnes, Silas Thomas/Jackson VanDeWege and Dominic Riccobene/Zach McCracken. Dustan Koch and Henry Hughes teamed up for a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win over North Mason’s Jakob Stark and Blake Haegele.

Sequim was scheduled to play Klahowya on Tuesday, weather permitting. The Wolves next match is at North Kitsap today. Though the Vikings are undefeated, the Wolves nearly beat them earlier this season, falling 4-3.
